Hi everybody, Dan Scott here. I hope you’re enjoying what you’re hearing so far on WDAB. The music mix seems to be gaining in popularity every day, and the local shows we’ve been able to produce so far are getting better and better by the week. I wanted to take just a moment of your time to talk about what’s ahead for us here at WDAB, and how it impacts you.

First, I’m excited to announce that beginning in mid-May we will have a live daily morning show on the station, hosted by TR’s own Cameron Tarrant. The object of the show is simple: Give Travelers Rest and Furman University – first and foremost – something they’re not getting anywhere else on the radio. Local news and sports updates, weather reports…in-studio and phone interviews with local people making news or doing things that impact the community. Taking state and national news and exploring ¬†how it affects us here. And the same with music, pop culture…you name it. Through our news partners at the TR Tribune and other sources, Cameron will be delving into this area and bringing you can’t-miss radio each and every day.
We are also on the lookout for more local shows, particularly in the afternoons and on weekends. Time on our station is incredibly inexpensive to purchase, and we want shows that touch every part of the community – health and wellness, news and politics, all the way to music, food, auto care and gardening. If you’ve got a show idea, we’d love to hear from you and explore any and all options.
As always, it takes revenue to make the world go around. And when we officially went on air 9 weeks ago we literally had to generate dollar one. No money in the bank. No investment dollars. Just putting our trust in you, the community, that if we give you a product you like the advertising dollars will follow. To those that have already come on board with us, thank you. For the rest of you, again all I’m asking is that you give us a 3-month test drive. The rates are ridiculously low, and as we ad more and more live, local programming the response you’ll get will be greater and greater.
I’ve been in this business for 30 years. I know that no one is going to spend their hard-earned money with us just out of civic pride. You work too hard, and if you’re going to advertise you expect results. And you should. I believe we are in a position to deliver those results if…IF…you’ll give us a chance.
As I’ve said before, a daytime AM radio station is at the bottom of the revenue totem pole in this business. I’m fully aware of the challenges we face. But I’m also cognizant of the fact that there are plenty of examples across the country where stations like WDAB have reinvested themselves into the community and have become successful.
That’s our plan. It’s the only way we can succeed. And we are excited about the challenge it brings. I hope, as spring turns into summer and we start becoming more and more visible in the community, you’ll be excited too.
